I am still reflecting on the enriching and unforgettable experience at the recently concluded Emirates Literature Festival, hosted by the Emirates Literature Foundation. This is a festival I have proudly attended for many years as a visitor, so being honoured as one of the 2024 Launchpad Authors felt especially meaningful and deeply personal.
It was a true pleasure to engage with such a passionate audience and to share insights into my books among fellow book lovers. I also had the joy of launching Barki and the Forest—and there could not have been a better place to do so than in a room filled with people who genuinely love stories and storytelling.
During my session, when Tamreez Inam asked me about my journey as an author, I reflected on how uniquely my path has been shaped by the different roles I hold in life: as an environmental scientist, a teacher, and a parent. These experiences have naturally converged to inspire the Barki series, where environmental awareness, educational values, and engaging storytelling come together in a way that resonates with young readers.
While I may not have followed a traditional path of “using” my degree in Environmental Science, it has undeniably influenced my writing journey. It serves as a reminder of how our education, passions, and life experiences often intersect in unexpected and meaningful ways—shaping who we become and what we create.
For children who enjoy catchy rhymes, playful language, and stories with heart, the Barki series is thoughtfully crafted with them in mind.
This experience will always hold a special place in my heart, as it marked my first formal appearance as a guest speaker at a prestigious international literature festival—a milestone I will forever cherish.
